World of Nations

May 3, 2014 @ 9:00 am - May 4, 2014 @ 5:00 pm

won-logo CISV will again be at the City of Jacksonville’s World of Nations Festival May 3-4.  World of Nations is a celebration of the many cultures and countries represented in the Jacksonville  community.

At our tent, CISV volunteers will be sharing information about our programs with the public and stamping visitor’s “passports” as part of the celebration.   Sign up for a shift with your delegation or old friends!

Our booth is on the river across from the entrance good. We are Booth I on the map.

Below are instructions for what you are supposed to do during your shift. Please call Lisa Taylor at 616-3560 if you have any questions.

We also need for you to sign the required waiver.

These are our objectives for participating in World of Nations:
1. Spread the word about CISV and our mission
2. Build ties with teachers and school officials
3. Build relationships with cultural groups
4. Build ties with community organizations
5. Recruit interested families, primarily with kids ages 11 to 14, for 2015 and beyond
6. Recruit interested leaders, age 21+ for intl programs
7. Get youth to join the Junior Branch and participate in monthly activities
(some benefits are volunteer hours, learn leadership skills, make new friends, have fun, be part of a global organization)
8. Enlist volunteers to help with our camps
9. Get people to come to our Spring General Meeting on Sunday, April 4 from 5:00 to 7:00 at Hendricks Ave Baptist Church
10. Get kids to come to the Happy Acres Faces Camp for 2 weeks this summer. Kids will need to enroll as campers at Happy Acres.

2. PUT CISV STICKERS ON KIDS AND OTHERS WILLING TO WEAR THEM
3. ENCOURAGE INTERESTED LEADERS, PARENTS AND YOUTH TO COMPLETE OUR INFORMATION SHEET –
Make sure the email address and phone number are legible.
After the person signs the sign up sheet, please add some commentary to the bottom of the sheet that might be helpful when we contact the person in the future, such as “seemed really interested, was interested in [X}, lived abroad in X, expressed concern about X (such as costs, length of time away, distant location of camp, etc.), parents were interested –kids were not” etc.
4. FIND OUT THE AGES OF THEIR CHILDREN
5. FIND OUT IF THE PERSON IS A TEACHER OR WORKS WITH KIDS
6. FIND OUT IF THE PERSON IS IN A CULTURAL GROUP
7. FIND OUT IF THE PERSON HAS A COMMUNITY GROUP THAT MIGHT BE INTERESTED IN HAVING CISV AS A SPEAKER
8. INVITE INTERESTED PEOPLE TO OUR SPRING GENERAL Meeting on Sunday, May 4 from 5:00 to 7:00.
9. EXPLAIN OUR MISSION
CISV MISSION STATEMENT: CISV provides a range of unique, educational group activities, which develop cross-cultural understanding in children and adults from around the world. By encouraging respect for cultural differences and the development of self-awareness, CISV empowers each participant to incorporate these values into their lives as they become global citizens and strive for a more just and peaceful world.
SHORT VERSION; We inspire and educate for a more just and peaceful world through international and local programs for youth and adults
10. EXPLAIN OUR ORGANIZATION – we are an independent, all-volunteer, non-political, non-religious nonprofit founded in 1951 on the belief that peace is possible through friendship and that a real difference can be made starting with children
11. CITE CISV BY THE NUMBERS
a. MORE THAN 60 YEARS OF YOUTH PROGRAMS
b. 60 countries participate worldwide
c. 200 chapters in the world
d. Jax chapter founded in 1976
e. organized over 6,000 international programs for over 230,000 participants.
12. HAND OUT OUR FLYERS AND CARDS

The City of Jacksonville gave us an extra 20 wristbands for our volunteers so we have 20 wristbands for each day. However, we have more than 20 volunteers per day so not everyone will receive free admission. I tried to make sure that each family received at least one wristband. The good news is that it only costs $5 for admission.
