Internship with Local Chapter of Global Nonprofit
Bringing Youth from Around the World for an International Leadership Camp and Sending Jacksonville Youth to Programs around the World
Focusing on Public Relations and Media campaigns
Purpose
CISV Jacksonville (www.cisvjax.org) will be hosting 55 youth and adults from at least 10 countries in the summer of 2017 for an international youth leadership camp called Step Up. CISV Jacksonville will also be sending about 50 youth and leaders from Jacksonville to represent the USA at international camps and programs around the world.
Job Description
The communications outreach intern will support the execution of tactics build awareness and donations for CISV. The intern will assist CISV’s VP of Programs and Communications Committee Chair in a wide range of projects including:
- formulating the communications strategies for program opportunities,
- writing and issuing press releases,
- developing a social media communications strategy for CISV,
- updating CISV Jax’s social media sites,
- pitching stories to local TV and print media outlets,
- coordinating logistics for any TV or radio appearances,
- assisting with the strategic fundraising plan,
- developing relationships with local community groups, businesses, foundations and sponsors,
- writing developing facilitating a membership campaign,
- tracking media coverage of CISV, and
- coordinating programs to recognize and appreciate donors.
Other work may include media relations, special events planning and execution, evaluating issues, and developing and implementing solutions.
Candidates applying should be available to spend between 5 and 20 hours per week for 8 to 10 weeks and are responsible for coordinating credit hours for internship if desired. Internships are available each semester, including over the summer.
Qualifications
Excellent communications and research skills, computer skills (desktop publishing a plus), strong interpersonal and customer service skills and ability to work on deadline and on multiple projects simultaneously. Students pursuing bachelor’s and/or graduate degrees in international studies, environmental studies, communications, public relations, social work, sociology, advertising, business or related fields. Interns must have a laptop computer with mobile internet.
