About CISV Jacksonville

There are many international organizations that invite young people to travel abroad and spend time in a foreign country. CISV is very different. You will not find another organization providing such experience for young people with a dedication to helping them learn about peace through tolerance and understanding.

CISV has a long history in the Jacksonville area. In the mid-1970′s, Dorothy Groshell (CISV Jacksonville founder) read an article in The Saturday Review entitled “Catch Them While They’re Young,” and was excited by the opportunities CISV could offer her young sons. Since there was no Chapter in Jacksonville, she started one (now one of 22 chapters in the US, still the only one in Florida).

The first Interchange with El Salvador was in 1976. Jacksonville’s first Village was held in 1978 at the Bartram School campus. Since then, programs have been held in Jacksonville in 1980, 1982, 1984, 1987, 1990, 1994, 1996, 1998, 2000, 2003, 2006, 2009 and 2012. There are also a variety of local programs.

In 2015, when the CISV Village opens its doors, media outlets, companies, organizations and government officials will want to celebrate its success. You will be among the first who stepped forward for an event that will make a mark on Jacksonville, and throughout the world.

CISV is a 501(c)3  and 100% volunteer organization. The money raised will cover costs of the campsite, including food, program expenses and leadership training. Tax documentation will be sent to the address you provide.
