In the mid-1970’s, Dorothy Groshell (CISV Jacksonville founder) read an article in The Saturday Review entitled “Catch Them While They’re Young,” and was excited by the opportunities CISV could offer her young sons. Since there was no Chapter in Jacksonville, she started one (now one of 21 chapters in the US, still the only one in Florida).

CISV Jacksonville held its first Interchange with El Salvador in 1976 and held its first Village in 1978 (pictured above).

In 2016, CISV marks 40 years of offering international educational programs to Jacksonville youth and adults.

To celebrate our 40th anniversary, we are having a 40th birthday party on Friday, November 18 at River City Brewing Company from 7 pm to 10 pm. The address is 835 Museum Cir. Jacksonville, FL 32207.

CISV Jacksonville would like everyone who has ever been involved in our chapter – delegates, JBers, leaders, parents, host families, volunteers, chapter members – to join us for the celebration.

Tickets are $40 per person. Visit the 40th Birthday Facebook page.
