Delegate Emily from Jacksonville Reflects on her France Winter Youth Meeting experience

Attending a Youth Meeting in Savoie this winter was an amazing experience. I made so many new friends that I now write to every day and hope to stay in contact with for many years to come. Even though the camp only lasted one week, by the end of the camp I felt as though I had known everyone there for years because I felt so close to everyone. I have also come back from this camp with a new perspective because I got to hear opinions that differed from my own. CISV has allowed me to experience other cultures and gain a more global perspective on things. I am very grateful for the opportunity to attend the Savoie Youth Meeting and I hope that anyone who has not participated in CISV before will give it a try because the experience is better than anything you could ever imagine!

J. Allen Axson Recognition

We would like to acknowledge J. Allen Axson’s very own fifth grader Brenna Grimes from Mrs. Debra Keyser’s class and fourth grader Fiona Bailey from Mrs. Stacy Avera’s class whom have been selected to represent the United States in Canada and Austria this summer. Their respective US delegation (2 girls and 2 boys and an adult leader from Jacksonville) will attend the CISV Village along with delegations from 11 other countries.

At this 4-week camp, the delegates will participate in a mix of activities exploring an educational theme designed to develop intercultural awareness, self-awareness, leadership skills and cooperative skills.  CISV, founded after World War II, is an independent, worldwide volunteer organization that educates and inspires action for a more just and peaceful world. The Jacksonville Chapter of CISV (www.cisvjax.org) has offered international and local programs for Jacksonville youth ages 11 to 18 for 40 years.

We are also proud to also have two (2) Axson family alumnae (now 6th graders), Cecilia Bailey and Ripley Selhorst traveling to Italy with Interchange this summer. Last year Ben Brown son of Kristin Alberts and Jay Brown went to Village in Turkey. Previously Gabby Carlson son of Alison and Richard Carlson went to Village in China.

Due to increased interest in global villages there has been an additional Village added this summer 2016, but there are only two (2) spots left for this global village in Columbus Ohio. Other countries that will be at this Village are Brazil, Costa Rica, Germany, Iceland, India, Indonesia, Mexico, Norway, Philippines, Portugal, and Spain. See attached flyer for more info.

Thank you J. Allen Axson staff, Mrs. Vanhoy, Mrs. Keyser, Mrs. Avera and all Axson families for helping to cultivate a new generation of peace seeking global minded citizens.
